Light and Darkness

Light and Darkness reflects a tone that moves between light and dark, leaning towards the darker and twilight end of the spectrum. I am very much a product of late 20th-century culture, and my influences come from the TV, films, books and music of that time.

I was once told that some of my work was too “outside the box” for a particular event, and I agree that I do aim to write outside the box. However, the work is written for performance. I regularly read with The Lichfield Poets at our public events, and I also perform at local venues in my own right.

I am also The Travelling Poet, and that is all about performing my poetry.

What I look for in poetry is a story, a message, sound and imagery, and my poetry aims to reflect this. What I don’t see myself as is a “poetic poet.”

Light and Darkness – Second Edition (Director’s Cut)

This second edition is my “director’s cut” version. What I mean by that is that it’s the book I would have written if I had had the extra poems and extra pages available at the time of the first edition.

In the first edition there were four themes. In this edition I have added a fifth, and I have added extra poems to each of the original four themes. I have also taken the opportunity to amend a couple of poems, as poets naturally do over time.

Most of what I said about the first edition still applies here, but since the first edition in 2011, I believe my poetry has developed in breadth and resonance.
